Massages offered at the main lodge
at an additonal cost
Swedish Massage which is the best-known type of bodywork performed today, one of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. But Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation. Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.
Deep Tissues Massage which is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints). This is perfect for those Saddle Sore aching limbs.

Horse Safari Information
The African Explorer Safari is amazing value: riding in two countries, seeing plains game speices on horseback and possibly elephant and lion. This safari is for those who want a wonderful horseback game viewing experience, combined with an element of cultural history.
This safari is only for experienced riders and offers a wonderful combination of game viewing on horseback and a mix of African culture.
Accommodations
Camp Davidson has recently been built high in the bushveld above the Matlapeng Valley. It offers the opportunity to explore from a base camp nestled in the heart of the wooded mountains of the Waterberg. The camp commands a wonderful panoramic view of the central highlands of the Waterberg massif, while overlooking the picturesque Sunset Lake at the eastern boundary of Triple B Ranch.
In the late 19th century, Ted Davidson, one of the first members of the Baber family (owners of Triple B Ranch) to settle in the Waterberg, was a young man trading by ox wagon to remote cattle outposts of a young ranching area. A good days travelling may have been only five miles or so by rugged track, and so an itinerant life in the Waterberg meant a life by the campfire. Horizon has captured that early camp atmosphere in Camp Davidson, with beautiful decked canvas tents nestled amongst the sandstone ridges overlooking grassy game filled valleys. Each tent is appointed as it would have been in Ted’s day with classic items that would have been essential to the traveller accustomed to regular nights in the bush.
The Botswana section is based at Two Mashatus Camp, a semi-permanent tented camp. There are five comfortable and roomy tents, each on its own raised teak platform, with en suite ‘enviro’ loo and bucket shower with a view. The century old Mashatu tree provides shade and there is a central dining area built in the traditional Botswana style with lala palm thatch. The lounge area has comfortable sofas and hammocks for relaxing between activities. The camps at Limpopo are not enclosed and a real treat will be to see game in and around camp.
South Africa and Botswana Horse Safari Sample Itinerary
Day One
You will be met at Johannesburg International Airport and transferred to South Africa's Camp Davidson, which usually takes about three hours. If arranging your own flights you should arrive in Johannesburg by 09:00 at the latest. Arrive at Camp Davidson in time to explore the beautiful surroundings and to meet your guides and the rest of your group before enjoying a late lunch.
In the afternoon, get to know your safari horse. You are matched with a horse to suit your ability and experience before heading off on your first day's South Africa horse safari. Horse ride the Matlapeng reserve and enjot sundowners the Red Lake, where you are likely to encounter the pod of resident hippo, before climbing the ridge back to Camp Davidson.
Day Two
A day of exploration in the reserve spent tracking herds of giraffe, zebra, eland, wildebeest, kudu and impala. The terrain lends itself to straying off the trails as your horse leads you along game trails and narrow kloofs. A saddlebag lunch is served at the riverside along a long abandoned wagon route used by the pioneers to congregate for church each Sunday. Rest in the shade of the riverine forest during the heat of the day or take a dip in the clear flowing streams whilst the horses graze, before gradually meandering back through the plains in the fading afternoon light
Day Three
Horse ride west of camp around the southern end of the reserve and on to the historic Baber homestead for lunch by the poolside. In the afternoon, visit the local Sotho village and perhaps have a tour of some of the traditional houses. Meet with the local characters like Martha Mosima and a group of village lady elders for afternoon tea, accompanied by traditional singing and dancing. After a day of horse riding adventures, culture and history, head back to peaceful of the Camp Davidson where dinner is served under the stars.
Day Four
An early departure from camp today, for a game drive at a nearby Big Five private game reserve. Here there is a chance to see rhino, lion, elephant, buffalo and leopard. On the way back to camp, visit a craft workshop which has been a community upliftment project since 1998. The crafters specialise in beautiful handmade beadwork and leather products including riding chaps. Lunch is served by the pool at the safari lodge, before heading back to camp for an evening ride across the game reserve.
Day Five
Today break camp early and mount for a last ride through the reserve in South Africa, soaking up the early morning sights and sounds of the African bush en route to Horizon lodge.
At around 7.30am, you'll be transferred to Limpopo Horse Safaris in the remote north eastern corner of Botswana. This 4 to 4.5 hour journey crosses the Limpopo River and into the Tuli block, before arriving at the stables. An introductory afternoon ride in Botswana will familiarize riders with their horses for this leg of the safari. Arrive at Two Mashatus camp in time to freshen up before the evening meal.
Day Six
An early wake-up call with tea or coffee brought to your tent, followed by breakfast around the campfire. Make an early start each day to enjoy the freshness of the morning and maximise game-viewing opportunities in the hours when wildlife is most active. Undoubtedly you will come across the large herds of elephant for which the Tuli is renowned, as well as many different species of antelope; also giraffe, zebra, bat-eared fox, jackal, hyena. If you are lucky, you may even spot lion, leopard, wild dog or cheetah. Later ride along the Limpopo River, enjoy the rich birdlife, look for crocodile in the pools and learn about the magnificent trees lining the banks. Alternatively, you have the option of a game drive, game walk or visiting the local village. In the village of Mothabaneng, see the ladies make baskets and visit some bushman paintings.
Day Seven
Ride out today following the movements of wildlife in the area and observing and interpreting the world around us. The tempo of the rides is always varied and depending on the terrain, there are opportunities to enjoy the spirit and fitness of the horses at a faster pace and long canters.
Day Eight
The last day of your African Explorer horseback safari adventure begins early with a final morning ride before arriving back at the stables in time for brunch. After saying farewell to your horses there is time for a refreshing shower and change before brunch. You will then begin the approximately 5.5 hour transfer back to Johannesburg International via Pontdrift border post.

South Africa Riding Safari Description
There is no set itinerary and the riding is customized to fit the guests, the weather at the time and other local conditions. Horse rides are kept small with rarely more than eight guests. Guests can also be taken out on their own if requested.
A normal day of your South Africa horse safari may include a light breakfast and an early morning horseback ride. During the middle of the day, guests usually like to relax, cool off in the plunge pool or a go for a walk in the surrounding bush. Once the heat of the day has subsided, have afternoon tea and set off for a late afternoon horseback ride. This horse safaris can be relaxed or adventurous and is great for families with kids and groups.
Guests can enjoy numerous horse rides across the large tracks of land that constitute Triple B Ranch. The ranch has its own small private game reserve so on a day ride you may see species such as giraffe, zebra, hippo, impala, eland, kudu and warthog. This small working cattle ranch allows riders with the opportunity to learn how to work with cattle. You can have fun learning new skills such as mustering and "cut and draft". There is a small cross country course, however this is only available to riders who have ridden cross country before. Body protectors are recommended for adults and mandatory for children when jumping the cross country fences. Please check that your travel insurance policy covers you for horse jumping activities.
Many guests also enjoy polocrosse, which combines Polo and Lacrosse! There is much to do for riders who want to horse ride and enjoy a South Africa horse safari!

Most people ask, "Where is it?" - that's the point: a century ago and still today, the Waterberg is South Africa's last great wilderness.

Guest Reviews
Our stay was awesome and we appreciated all the personal touches for our aniversary! The food was top notch and all the bits of advice were much appreciated and helped us find our seats real quick. I know you guys really did a great job in boosting Chantell's confidence and she will be a better horsewoman after her stay. She has learnt a great deal in a very short time. Experiencing the day to day life was great and also very interesting and eye opening at the same time. For me it was nice to spend some quality time in the saddle as it has been a while, hope you didn't notice !! I couldn't have wished for a better start to the weekend than being chucked straight into a game of polocrosse as it was top of my agenda for the weekend although I never mentioned it .Also a note of thanks for the use of the guide's personal mounts ( thanks Kirst ) , we both really enjoyed our horses and couldn't wait to see who we had been partnered with for the next ride! You guys have a great team at Horizon and the horses are stunning ( I did have my favourite though ), so this is cheers till next time cause we will be back so Kirst look after MY horse and don't teach him any bad manners !! Thanks once again.

I was worried about returning to somewhere I had been before, as I had such a fantastic time previously. I should never have been concerned. The staff may have changed, but the 'formula' is still the same.
--Mandy from Co Antrim
Far exceeded my expectations. Absolutely fantastic. Good selection of horses to ride. Never laughed so much playing polocrosse. The swimming is the best riding experience I have ever had.....Chocolate Brownies to die for.

The horsemanship was fantastic, as were the horses. Far outweighed my expectations.

A History of South Africa, Third Edition by Leonard Thompson
This magisterial history throws a floodlight on South Africa's current crisis by examining the past. The absurdity of the apartheid philosophy of racial separatism is underscored by the author's argument (backed with convincing research material) that the genes of the nation's first hunter-gatherers are inextricably mixed with those of modern blacks and whites. The Dutch colonial invaders felt no sense of kinship with the original inhabitants, however: their arrival brought slavery and disease, pulverizing chiefdoms and pastoral communities. From the outset, white settler society was dependent on the labor of slaves and indigenous peoples. Thompson, a specialist in South African history, expertly relates how the Afrikaners--still poor, scattered and disunited in 1854--threw off Dutch and British hegemony to forge their own national identity, forcibly uprooting and relocating millions of blacks. Although the author deems president Frederik W. de Klerk "like his predecessors . . . wedded to fixed racial categories," he sees signs of hope in blacks' increasing economic power and the student revolt against pedagogical brainwashing in the state-controlled schools.
Long Walk to Freedom: The Autobiography of Nelson Mandela by Nelson Mandela
The famously taciturn South African president reveals much of himself in Long Walk to Freedom. A good deal of this autobiography was written secretly while Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years on Robben Island by South Africa's apartheid regime. Among the book's interesting revelations is Mandela's ambivalence toward his lifetime of devotion to public works. It cost him two marriages and kept him distant from a family life he might otherwise have cherished. Long Walk to Freedom also discloses a strong and generous spirit that refused to be broken under the most trying circumstances--a spirit in which just about everybody can find something to admire.
